PUNTILA

/ MATTI

It is easier to rob by setting up a bank
than by holding up a clerk.
– Bertolt Brecht

Seven decades since the black magic and white-collars of Brecht’s ‘Mr Puntila and his Man Matti’ first combined, and across from the Coke Sign in Kings Cross, they as potent as ever.

This electrifying, breakneck odyssey of hate from Doppelgangster (UK/AUS) – world leaders in iconoclastic, political performance – leaves Brecht’s Epic of corporate greed dead and buried.

Sacrificing their own humanity at the stage’s edge Welsh Academic Dr Tom Payne’s and Tobias Manderson-Galvin’s hypnotic and darkly-comic performance work makes Brian de Palma seem banal, Die Antwoord restrained, and Zizek a philistine.

Take a class-war battlefield flashback in this brutalist, sadistic, and prophetic spectacle. Feel a cool trail of sweat down your cheek from a vicious score by Jules Pascoe, and get shockingly intimate with one of the most phenomenal live performance companies in action.
